Tree-lined Avenues

The history of Coral Gables was influenced by the aesthetics of the City Beautiful Movement that swept across America in the early 1900s. Inspired by the works of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, who designed New York’s Central Park, The City Beautiful Movement encouraged the use of wide tree-lined avenues, monumental buildings, winding roadways, green space, ornate plazas, and fountains. All these elements of style have been and continue to be incorporated throughout Coral Gables.

The City continues to promote a Mediterranean architectural aesthetic. Many properties in the City are on the National Register of Historic Places, and more than 1,000 properties are on the Coral Gables Register of Historic Places. In addition, the Biltmore Hotel is a designated National Historic Landmark. To learn more about the area please visit the City of Coral Gables website here.

The picture to the right shows a unique and well thought out bathroom remodel. The shower was intended to be curbless for older guests, and a “pass-through” cutout in the shower glass, allows easy access to the shower diverters- allowing full control without getting soaked. The wall is made of two pieces of natural marble slabs, both cut right next to one another in the quarry and stitched together.

The image that follows is a clean master bath renovation. The wood floor is actually porcelain, flowing seamlessly into the inlaid marble basketweave floor. Although the floor looks flat, the tile setter was able to pitch the shower floor towards the left wall, avoiding any water issues near the door. With such a large shower, the client had the ability to add a large bench without compromising on space.

Every Last Detail

The next two photos have additional ideas to consider for your Palmetto Bay home. The first features an elegant freestanding tub, and generous master shower. The large floor tiles were run in a herringbone pattern to differentiate itself from the typical brick pattern. A chandelier above the bathtub provides some ambient lighting for relaxation at night. The second shows a wonderfully unique guest bath. Every last detail was thought-out prior to starting, down to the water lines for the sink faucet, and the niche over the toilet. Given a small footprint to work with, proper planning and execution can turn a small space, into your favorite room to show off and be proud of.

And finally, the next image is of a kitchen remodel, in which the focus was on building a simple, elegant, and relaxing space. Mission accomplished. Unique aspects of this build include the exposed bookshelf in the upper corner, built-in dishwasher and specialty cabinet hardware.
